CCI Acquires New State of the Art Graphics System

Nov 29, 2001. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fl., Nov 28th, 2001 --- Communications Concepts, Inc. (CCI), an audio-visual communications company headquartered in Cape Canaveral, recently selected Chyron Corporation to meet its growing needs for high-resolution real-time television graphics. Initial acquisition by CCI, includes a Duet Graphics System and Lyric Software. The system provides CCI with enormous composition and playback capabilities for real-time 2D/3D text, graphics and animation to meet the stringent demands of its broadcast and corporate clients.

According to CCI vice-president Jim Lewis, "Chyron hardware has led the industry for many years. Duet is Chyron's new real-time graphics processing platform. It will be the standard for digital video and television applications for many years to come. Like our Avid SoftImage Editor, Duet systems offer option to work in standard or high definition television. The Duet is fast enough to do sports and sophisticated enough to do post effects. We're it sure will allow us to more than meet our clients needs now and in the future."

CCI's graphics system is composed of a dual-channel Duet with Lyric software. Lyric is a Windows NT software application that is at the heart of Chyron's Duet graphics platform. In combination with the Duet graphics platform, Lyric allows 2D graphics and real-time 3D animation for broadcast-quality applications. Chyron's proprietary 32-bit video processor is the heart of the Duet system. Performing up to 6.5 billion calculations per second, the processor supports OpenGL operation and anti-aliased text display. Duet's 601 digital processing works in real time, independent of the PC processor. PAL and NTSC formats are software selectable.

According to Lewis, the compatibility with other computers and past graphics systems was a major reason for selecting Duet. "Running on NT makes the Duet compatible with our Avid/SoftImage Digital Editor, our Web and Internet development machines and the rest of our network, since they all run on NT. This will allow us to develop graphics off-line and transfer them digitally to any workstation in our facility quickly, easily and without degradation. Clients will be able to bring in graphics from most any computer and we will be able to use them. The Duet can also display graphics created on earlier Chyron graphic systems, including the Chyron iNFiNiTI which a lot of our sports clients still use", he explained.

CCI is not alone in standardizing on Chyron. Earlier this week, Chyron Corporation entered into a multi-year agreement to supply automation, graphics, and modular products to Turner Broadcasting System. The graphics systems at TBS, including a number of Duets will be networked, enabling cross platform access for simplified content creation and redundant real-time playout.
