Communications Concepts produces TV coverage of MLFS 2004 National Invitational Championships

June 23, 2004.

It was the first annual "United States National Invitational Championships" for Major League Figure Skating (MLFS) and CCI was there covering the action. The action took place at the Lakeland convention center where a total of twelve teams competed for a purse of over $25,000. The championship showdown on Saturday featured competitive drama, an international cast of players and a setting in Central Florida. By day's end, team Fuzion, headed by Team Captain Scott Davis, beat out Team Velocity, headed by Team Captain Tonia Kwiatkowski, in a final score of 131 to 119.

Jon Rubin, Commissioner of MLFS wanted the competition covered with the right perspective, "We knew from the beginning that producing our 2004 Major League Figure Skating Championships would pose a significant challenge to any broadcast team. The challenge was that Major League Figure Skating is an entirely new sport and without any of the foundations that other sports provide to broadcasters. CCI took the time to understand our vision and was able create a quality sports broadcast.."

Communications Concepts' multi-camera coverage started six hours earlier with set-up of the cameras and rollout of cable to ready the arena prior to the Championship event. Well known television personality, Glenn Dehmer was accompanied by one of MLFS's very own, Norm Proft, providing commentary for this two-hour broadcast now airing on the Sunshine Network. Mark Speer, CCI's Chief Engineer and EIC for this production thought The Lakeland Center was an excellent location for the event, "The center is a great facility, equal or better than all the arenas we shoot at. They are real professionals at Lakeland and we get to park the truck inside. This cuts down set-up time and helps us do a better production."
