Communications Concepts, Inc. (CCI) Wraps Production on Skating's Next Star
Feb 14, 2006.
Orlando, FL - Communications Concepts, Inc. (CCI) wrapped up shooting on Skating's Next Star, a new reality show and competition to air on WE: Women's Entertainment. The competition and ten day shoot took place in Orlando and Lakeland, FL, on the ice and behind the scenes. The production has now moved to CCI HD Orlando, where post-production begins and will continue for six weeks.
Post-production of Skating's Next Star will be the first project completed entirely at CCI's new high definition editing facility, CCI HD Orlando, located on the lot at Universal Studios, Orlando. For the shoot, CCI utilized the mobile production unit #4, a Mac Mid-liner equipped with ten Hitachi cameras with up to 50x1 Canon lenses, a Grass Valley 3000 switcher, an Abekas A53 DVE, and an Abekas A42 Stillstore.
According to CCI General Manager Jim Lewis, "While it was a challenging shoot, it was also one of the most rewarding, high profile network projects CCI has ever worked on. We took the knowledge and experience we have gained over the last thirty years and put it to the test on this series. And now we move to our brand new Orlando facility where we will do all of the post production work in order to meet the tight deadline for show delivery."
Dana Stites, managing director of CCI HD Orlando, said, "We chose to do the post at CCI HD Orlando instead of CCI headquarters in Cape Canaveral because, while it is not an HD production, it does require three edit suites running at full capacity for ten to twelve hours a day, six days a week, for six weeks. That's a lot of post, but with all of the new equipment we have acquired for CCI HD Orlando, we are excited to get started."
Jon Rubin, the show's executive producer and the founder of Major League Figure Skating (MLFS), first approached CCI because the two had worked together successfully in the past. "Once we were on board, Mr. Rubin brought the entire concept to WE: Women's Entertainment. From that point, things began to develop rather quickly, and it's really taken on a momentum of its own since then," Lewis said.
When it airs in March, Skating's Next Star hopes to capitalize on the peak of interest in figure skating surrounding the Olympics. MLFS's goal with the show is to raise public awareness for figure skating and to establish an organization that enables figure skaters to continue skating competitively once they turn professional.
In addition to host Kristi Yamaguchi, the show will feature an all-star skating panel of judges, including US National Champion Rudy Galindo and Olympic medalists Elvis Stojko and Oksana Grishuk. The judges will explain the technicalities of skating, shedding light on the sometimes mysterious world of figure skating for the viewer.
"The show is going to be terrific. I watch skating every Olympics, and I often have a difficult time grasping the decisions and reasoning of the judges," Stites added. "People like me who love to watch the sport are not only going to be entertained, but we are also going to learn something about a highly artistic and beautiful sport."
The drama begins on March 20th at 10 pm EST, only on WE: Women's Entertainment.
