CCI video demonstrates Surface to Air Missile Threat Simulator for DBA Systems.

Apr 5, 1999. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fl., April 5, 1999 --- Communications Concepts, Inc. (CCI) of Cape Canaveral, Florida recently completed production of an overview presentation for DBA Systems, Inc.. DBA Systems, located in Melbourne, Florida specializes in the design and development of electro-optical and infrared threat simulation and training systems currently deployed with the Army, Navy and Air Force. This videotape program highlighted the Manportable Air Defense System (MANPADS) Threat Simulator.

DBA uses custom instrumentation of actual foreign shoulder-fired, surface-to-air missile systems including launch tubes, seekers, and grip stocks, resulting in a high-fidelity simulation. Pilots can fly against these threats to learn about acquisition capabilities and proper evasion techniques and tactics. After a training course, the pilots use the launchers themselves to gain first-hand appreciation for the ease of target acquisition.

CCI captured footage on location at DBA headquarters and at Patrick Air Force Base. "You can not just go anywhere and pull out a rocket launcher. I think people would get a little nervous," said CCI producer, Nate Hogan. "Even on an Air Force Base, people got nervous."

"I was amazed at the simplicity of these weapons and the apparent ease of acquiring one. DBA has addressed an inherent need for these type of simulators to show pilots the dangers that exist," exclaimed editor, Jason Morris. Morris edited the 11-minute piece digitally on CCI's SoftImage/ DS non-linear editing system.

The creative team also obtained stock footage of these systems in use in Vietnam, Afghanistan and the Gulf War. Animation for the presentation was created by Andy Olsen of Canaveral Technigraphics.
