CCI Helps Send First Malaysian To Space

In October, CCI had the exciting opportunity to provide television coverage and satellite relay worldwide to help send the first Malaysian Astronaut into Space. The Malaysian Institute of Microelectronic Systems (MIMOS) hired CCI. It's a government owned research organization to aid in space exploration.

The Astronaut for the mission, Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor flew to the International Space Station (ISS) on board a Russian Soyuz rocket. Muszaphar is an orthopedic doctor from Kuala Lumpur. He spent nine days on the ISS studying live cell cultures. The studies included the effects of microgravity on cells, and experiments for a potential HIV vaccine.

"I got a chance to see Malaysia from space, and it was the most beautiful thing I've seen in my life," said Shukor.

Dr. Shukor spent several weeks training at NASA. CCI shot and interviewed Dr. Shukor in Houston while there for training. CCI put together video footage of the training, provided live video messages from ISS during the mission, created two 1-hour documentaries and an animation.

CCI, working with Astro TV in Malaysia, also provided the live broadcast of the launch at the Convention Center in Kuala Lumpur. The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Cabinet Ministers and 280 students watched in awe as the country entered the world of space exploration.

"It was great working with the representatives in Malaysia. They seriously wanted to provide an example to the youth to study technology, science and math. I'm proud that our company had a part in that," said CCI President Jim Lewis.

CCI also hired American Astronaut, Hoot Gibson to serve as an expert in Kuala Lumpur for the duration of the mission.
CCI produced simultaneous live feeds from the launch site in Kazakhstan, from a VIP Guest Event in Astana and from CCI's studios in the United States during the launch. During the mission CCI continued to provide broadcast feeds from their studio and from the American Mission Control in Houston and the Russian Mission Control in Moscow. Rusnan Saad from MIMOS said CCI had time and time again "surpassed my expectations" and MIMOS Vice President Thillai Raj T. Ramanathan thanked CCI for their "great support".

In November, a crew from CCI shot video for the Tourism Development Council (TDC) on the Space Coast. The video will be seen by passengers from Britain as they land in Orlando. CCI captured video of people on the beach, surfing and just having fun. The TDC hopes this will spark tourists to drive to the Space Coast.

"Anytime you can get outside and get to the beach it's going to be a good time. Plus, the weather in November was great. This was definitely a fun shoot," said Bryan Foster, Director of Editing for CCI.

AV Rentals Update

CCI Adds Breakthrough Technology for Clients

In September, CCI invested in a TriCaster and European Format "PAL" Cameras. It's just the latest in a long list of major investments the company is making to provide more services to clients.

PAL, short for Phase Alternating Line, is a color encoding system used in broadcast TV systems. The PAL standard automatically removes hue color errors by utilizing phase alternation of the color signal, so a tint control is unnecessary as it with the American format NTSC. The addition of the new PAL cameras continues to round out CCI's complete PAL production package that already included PAL Betacam Decks, a high end digital component standards converter and satellite facilities that include a five meter international dish equipped with a multi-format international receiver. CCI also has two of our posts suites configured to edit PAL on either Final Cut Pro or Avid Nitris DS. This equipment and facilities will allows CCI to better interface and serve its growing community of clients around the world.

The TriCaster includes live, multi-channel virtual sets with unprecedented realism for broadcast and web stream. The combination of portability and ease of set-up with the extensive live production capabilities takes broadcasting and web streaming to a new level.

"TriCaster gets its name from the fact it can output three different types of signals at the same time; an output for video to record or broadcast, a VGA output for video projectors and panels, and streamed media output for the web. This makes the TriCaster a very useful tool for live events that need Image Magnification," says Andrew Marcus, AV Rentals Manager with CCI.

The TriCaster and PAL Cameras, as well as other A/V Equipment are available for rentals. For more information call the CCI Cape Canaveral Office at (321) 783-5232.
