CCI Produces HD Delta II/Themis Launch Coverage for Quantel NAB2007 Booth Demonstration
When UK-based digital media company Quantel was looking for captivating and thrilling American interest stories to shoot for its upcoming NAB2007 (National Association of Broadcasters) HD demo, the company selected CCI. With quick turnaround, CCI produced news style coverage of a Delta II/Themis launch in HD on P2 technology. The segment was used to demonstrate Quantel's news edit systems at their booth at NAB2007.
According to CCI's general manager, Jim Lewis, "Quantel was looking for a company with experience in high definition video who is familiar with the rocket launch industry. As the premier producer of rocket launch broadcasts with over 150 in our history, and with an established HD facility and company concentration on HD, CCI was a natural fit for the project. CCI uses a similar HD workflow to the one Quantel featured at NAB-that of Panasonic's P2 technology-so that created an even greater synergy."
CCI shot the footage using matching Panasonic AG-HVX200 HD cameras, which record directly to the solid-state P2 memory card. Quantel then took the HD footage to Las Vegas and NAB2007 and used it to premier their new editing system. The system is revolutionary for several reasons including its ability to utilize both standard definition and HD footage in the same timeline, and because the system is designed to handle the P2 workflow flawlessly.
According to Quantel Director of Creative Services Danny Peters: "We needed a uniquely American production company with its feet firmly in HD and rockets; CCI is waist-deep in both. The NAB demonstration was a huge success for us, and its thanks in part to CCI's tremendous work and partnership."
For the shoot, CCI gained access to Press Site One at Cape Canaveral Air Force Base. CCI hired talent Jennifer Hodges as a reporter to do stand-ups and readers for the report. CCI has often used Hodges in the past to host its launch broadcasts and corporate videos; space fans familiar with the commercial rocket industry and Atlas and Proton launches will immediately recognize her.
NAB is the annual convention of the National Association of Broadcasters and the essential destination for more than 100,000 electronic media executives, trendsetters and visionaries. The event brings together the entire spectrum of media-television and radio broadcast, audio and video production and latest technologies-from all corners of the globe.
CCI Teams with Traveling Light Media to Shoot a National Champ Car Racing Spot featuring Newman/Haas/Lanigan and McDonald's
The CCI and Traveling Light Media team traveled to the Sebring International Speedway to shoot a national, high definition commercial spot for the Champ Car World Series highlighting the Newman/Haas/Lanigan racing team.
The shoot featured Paul Newman's Newman/Haas/Lanigan racing team and its #1 car, the McDonald's champ car. CCI produced the HD footage for a commercial promoting the upcoming Champ Car World Series. In addition to a national commercial, the footage and driver interviews captured by CCI and Traveling Light Media are being integrated into a champ car documentary currently in production.
The CCI team shot in high definition using the Panasonic HVX200 HD cameras. Because of the camera's true overcranking (and undercranking) capabilities, the HVX200 HD was ideal for shooting the high speed champ cars-which often reach speeds of 225 mph-and yielded exceptionally clear video and outstanding fast- and slow-motion images.
Driving the McDonald's car for the shoot was Sebastien Bourdais, the 2004, 2005, and 2006 champ car racing champion. Bourdais is currently the number one champ car racer in the world in 2007, after recently leading the Newman/Haas/Lanigan team in the McDonald's car to a first place finish in the Grand Prix of Houston. A banner day for the team, Newman/Haas/Lanigan rookie Graham Rahal finished the race in second.
CCI interviewed Bourdais and the other drivers after the shoot and captured their thoughts on the future of champ car racing amid the recent growth of motorsports in America. The interviews will be used in the upcoming documentary film.
CCI Produces Duramed FUTURES Tour for Polk County and Fox SunSports
In March, the CCI mobile production unit was in Lakeland to produce the LPGA Duramed FUTURES Tour's Lakeland Duramed FUTURES Classic at Cleveland Heights Golf Course in Lakeland, Fla. The live-to-tape event featured an exciting tournament that ended with long-time tour player Lori Atsedes taking the purse after fighting off several challenges over the three-day event. With the win, Astedes remained the top money winner on the FUTURES tour.
For the shoot, the CCI team set up scaffolding three tiers high and shot with three cameras at the 18th hole-one at the tee, one high camera at the green, and one exit camera at the green-and two cameras at the 17th hole-one high camera and one exit camera. Additional footage was captured by two ENG style cameras which also followed the tour on the first two days of the tournament, enabling CCI to produce highlights packages of the first two days for use in the final show. CCI also produced the commentary from the hosts for the broadcast, Sid Champagne and Tracy Kerdyk. The final two hour edited program aired on Fox SunSports in early April and reran several times throughout the month.
CCI Launches Dynamic Web Site for SpaceCoast Business
CCI recently launched the feature-rich SpaceCoast Business Web site, a site dedicated to providing an on-line meeting space for the business leaders of Brevard County. Though certain parts of the site are still under construction with media galleries to be added later, increased traffic to the site is already being tracked, a sign of a successful launch.
According to Spacecoast Business Editor Josh Field, "When we started Spacecoast Business, we had a vision for more than just a magazine. We wanted to be a portal of business information relating to Brevard County - to share ideas, resources, success stories and best practices in whatever media were available to us. CCI is helping us take the next step in that goal by creating with us a website that will eventually be local businesspeople's daily stop for local business news, and out-of-towners' view into the business culture in Brevard County."
The site currently features past articles, readers' polls, a members' section, event calendars, the ability to subscribe to the print magazine, and the ability to send the publishers reader input. Media features to come include photos, video, and podcasting in the media gallery; a blog; a shopping cart, and more. Most importantly, as the site grows, so will the readership, fulfilling the original vision of an interconnected Brevard business community.
